ARTIFICIAL EYE (OCULAR PROSTHESIS)
Consultation Guide
At Yamout Optical Center, an artificial eye is not simply cosmetic. It is a medical, functional, and artistic rehabilitation designed to restore natural appearance, comfort, and confidence after eye loss.
- What happens during your consultation
- How we achieve a realistic match
- How comfort and hygiene are ensured
- What follow-up and long-term care involve
Our priority is a result that looks natural in real life—during conversation, movement, and facial expression—while maintaining the highest standards of clinical safety and discretion.
OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE
Custom ocular prosthetics crafted with medical precision and artistic realism.
We understand that eye loss is both physical and emotional. Our philosophy is built on:
- Dignity and privacy at every step
- Comfort-first fitting (no pressure, no rushed sessions)
- Medical hygiene and socket safety (clean, controlled techniques)
- True customization (no prefabricated “stock eyes”)
- Natural harmony with eyelids, facial symmetry, and skin tone
Our goal is not an “ideal photo” result—it is realistic harmony at normal social distance.
WHO IS AN OCULAR PROSTHESIS FOR?
An artificial eye may be recommended after:
- Enucleation (complete removal of the eye)
- Evisceration (removal of contents; outer shell preserved)
- Severe trauma, painful blind eye, infection, or tumor treatment
- Congenital conditions affecting eye development
Your ophthalmologist usually confirms when the socket is ready. If surgery was recent, we may advise waiting until healing and swelling stabilize.
THE CONSULTATION EXPERIENCE
Personalized assessment, meticulous molding, and detailed hand-painting for a perfect match.
1) Private Medical Assessment
We evaluate:
- Socket health and healing
- Eyelid position and movement
- Volume, symmetry, and tissue comfort
- Any dryness, irritation, or discharge concerns
2) Precision Molding (Impression)
A custom impression is made to capture the exact shape of the socket. This is essential for:
- Comfort (reduces friction/pressure points)
- Stability (better positioning and eyelid support)
- More natural movement with surrounding tissues
3) Custom Sculpting & Fit Trial
We refine:
- Shape and thickness (to support eyelids naturally)
- Iris position (gaze alignment)
- Facial symmetry and “at-rest” expression
4) Hand-Painting & Realism
We match:
- Iris color, depth, and pattern
- Sclera tone (the “white” is never pure white)
- Fine vascular details
- Overall brightness and natural reflection
5) Final Fitting & Aesthetic Refinement
We confirm:
- Comfort during blinking and daily wear
- Natural appearance in different lighting
- Balanced gaze alignment at conversation distance
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR FITTING
- The artificial eye does not restore vision, but it is designed to look natural and support facial balance.
- Movement depends on surgery type and implant. Many patients achieve pleasing, natural motion, especially during expression and blinking.
- Mild awareness is normal at first; discomfort is not. If irritation persists, adjustments are recommended.
SAFETY, HYGIENE & COMFORT
We follow strict care standards. You will receive guidance on:
- Lubrication drops or gel for comfort
- When to remove vs. leave the prosthesis in place
- Cleaning recommendations (safe methods only)
- Warning signs that require review (pain, swelling, persistent discharge)
LONG-TERM CARE & MAINTENANCE
To keep the prosthesis comfortable and lifelike:
- Professional polishing is recommended every 6–12 months
- Periodic follow-up helps maintain socket health and appearance
- Most prostheses last ~5 years or more, depending on medical changes and tissue stability
WHAT TO BRING TO YOUR APPOINTMENT
Helpful items (if available):
- Surgical/medical reports
- Current eye medications or drops
- Any previous prosthesis (if you have one)
- A companion is welcome for reassurance and alignment feedback
