Contact Lenses for Presbyopes

As we get older, men and women start to develop a condition called presbyopia that makes it difficult to focus on close-up objects.
One answer is bifocal spectacles or glasses. But there are more comfortable, more convenient alternatives that improve your vision without imposing on your style.

What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is a common condition that begins to appear in men and women at around age 40. It is a progressive hardening of the lens in the eye that prevents the lens from changing shape to focus light. This causes blurred vision, especially at close range. You may have noticed difficulty reading books or newspapers without holding them out at arm's length. Eye strain may become a problem in job-related activities like working on a computer screen.

Will I have to wear glasses?

Your eye care practitioner may choose to prescribe eyeglasses with special lenses that correct both distant and close-up vision. For many people, eyeglasses are not an attractive alternative because they interfere with their occupation and lifestyle. Still others don't like the visible "line" that may separate the two areas of vision on the lenses.

Can I wear contact lenses?

The good news is that contact lenses are available to correct presbyopia. Sunsoft® Corporation, one of the nation's leading manufacturers of specialty contact lenses, has developed soft multifocal contact lenses called Sunsoft Additions TM for planned replacement. Unlike many types of eyeglasses and contact lenses that only correct vision for distance or close-up work, the Sunsoft Additions lens is designed to provide clear, natural vision at all ranges. Even if you have never worn contact lenses, or if you have been unsuccessful in wearing contact lenses in the past, Sunsoft Additions may be the answer to your vision needs.

What makes Sunsoft multifocal lenses my best choice?

Sunsoft Additions lenses are designed to correct all vision ranges, including close-up, intermediate and distant. That means you can wear Additions without changing your activity or your eyewear. And because Sunsoft Additions are soft contact lenses, wearing comfort is excellent. Sunsoft Additions are not for every patient, but their unique design makes them an excellent alternative for many presbyopia patients. Talk to your practitioner about your options.
