the eye in rather than a ready-made eye 1. Custom made Prepared according to patient's socket measurement but ready-made are readily available in the market. 2. Custom made eye Made by PMMA (UK, German) but ready-made eye made by low-grade plastic 3. Size, Shape, colour is the same as the natural eye but in ready-made is not possible 4. More eye movement in compare to ready-made eye 5. Modifications are possible to solve problems like Ptosis, proptosis and socket expansion without surgery in custom made eye but modification is not possible in the ready-made eye.
After removal from the socket, the impression is encased in dental stone, which is very similar to plaster of Paris. The impression material is then removed from the mold and molten wax is poured into the mold. This is allowed to cool and harden. What we obtain is a wax piece that constitutes a model for the artificial eye. The wax allows us to make changes for comfort as well as opening eyelids to match the companion eye.
ImpressionOn the first visit we get a cast of the eye socket. This involves mixing a paste, placing it into a syringe and gently squeezing the paste into the eye socket. The impression paste could best be described as cold and yuck, but it doesn’t hurt. In the past we have tried an aesthetic eye drops to reduce the cold sensation, but people told us that the eye drops were more unpleasant than the impression paste itself. Initially, the material has a consistency similar to the white of a hard-boiled egg. With no discomfort to the patient, the alginate sets up in one to two minutes.
